The team is testing two BMW Riley Daytona Prototype at Daytona International Speedway in preparation for his debut in the DP 26-27 in Rolex 24 At Daytona. The test ends Wednesday.
The team began in what is now known as the Grand-Am Continental Challenge Street Touring class in 2001. A dozen years later, we are preparing for the big show in Daytona and the race all season Rolex Series DP championship.
"We went through the whole system level in Grand-Am since 2001," said driver to top Nonnamaker test during an explosion on Tuesday. "We have taken the step.
"We won the championship ST, so moved to the next class, the next class. We are the first team that has evolved through the ranks that way."
Sahlen is short Sahlen Packing Company, based in Buffalo, NY The company produces hot dogs since 1869. Sahlen and Nonnamaker family have been running since 2006.
"There are partnerships in the race to be together for a long time," said Nonnamaker. "Not just a name on a race car. Really are united."
After the race based on the production of Mazda RX-8 GT cars last season, the team is doing the movement of prototypes. He bought two frames Riley Action Express Racing, which is owned by businessman Bob Johnson Daytona Beach.
"Race cars are about 80 percent in the same way," said Nonnamaker. "That last 20 percent of the difference lead engineer with Catherine Crawford, who has extensive experience in Daytona, and Dane Cameron, who raced in ALMS in recent years."
The team lost a day of testing at Daytona in November because of the time and decided to jump with numerous other groups for a private home Speedway.
"After this test, we realized we had just driven cars," said Nonnamaker. "We had to spend more and more evidence to the contrary would not be prepared for the race."
The Rolex 24 at Target?
I hope Team Sahlen is a place on the podium, but it will be difficult with a strong field of Daytona Prototype is due to open Rolex Watches Series season.
