Wild Thing disqualified on Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race 2012

Just two hours before the start of the race, crossing Yacht Club of Australia Commodore Howard Piggott, said: "The Race Committee of the Replica Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race will not accept input from the boat Wild Thing result of non-compliance with the Notice of Race especially NOR 4.1, dealing with documentation for submission and verification of construction requirements.
"The Race Committee has worked with the ship's owner, Grant Wharington, to allow up to three hours before the start of the race to provide the necessary documentation, but was not received, and the race committee has no other choice but to not accept the entry of Wild Thing.
Piggott said the race committee worked Wharington recent days to try to get the necessary paperwork filed, and had extended the deadline until ten o'clock this morning, three hours before departure.
Wild Thing has undergone significant changes in recent months, including a new part of the hull, adding two feet to the length. The racing rules require the designer and builder of boats provide statements that the yacht was built to ABS standards.
"This is the final decision of the Race Committee, which puts safety first," Piggott told reporters at a press conference.
He added: "It is disappointing, we have made every effort. Assure you that I want to run the boat. Nevertheless, it is out of our hands. We must comply with the Notice of Race, and ensure that our safety standards are met . I think we just move on now and go out sailing race.
